Adhesive structures in the eggs of Corydoras aeneus (Gill, 1858; Callichthyidae)

چکیده
The surface structure of the eggs of the catfish Corydoras aeneus was examined and showed to be a unique pattern among teleosts. The surface was covered with small protuberances, which resemble attaching-filaments of teleost eggs. Eggs were, however, found to be very adhesive and since the species is known to inhabit turbid waters, this rare egg attachment mode could well be related to these environmental conditions. # 2005 The Fisheries Society of the British Isles

Descriptive osteology of Corydoras aeneus (Siluriformes: Callichthyidae)
Both the cranial and postcranial osteology of Corydoras aeneus (Gill, 1858) is described based on the study of five adult specimens. The results were compared to the condition described for other loricarioid fishes. Most results corresponded with the expected pattern based on studies dealing with parts of the callichthyid osteology, although some differences were observed. One of these differen...
متن کاملHow do albino fish hear?
Pigmentation disorders such as albinism are occasionally associated with hearing impairments in mammals. Therefore, we wanted to investigate whether such a phenomenon also exists in non-mammalian vertebrates. We measured the hearing abilities of normally pigmented and albinotic specimens of two catfish species, the European wels Silurus glanis (Siluridae) and the South American bronze catfish C...
متن کاملPathology of Piscinoodinium sp. (Protozoa: Dinoflagellida), parasites of the ornamental freshwater catfishes Corydoras spp. and Brochis splendens (Pisces: Callichthyidae).
Piscinoodinium sp. (Protozoa, Dinoflagellida) was commonly found on routine smears of samples of Brochis splendens and Corydoras spp. imported into Britain from South America, and on samples of the same group of fish examined at the exporters' holding facilities in Brazil. Infected fish had trophonts of different sizes on the gills and skin. In histological sections of the skin, the trophonts w...

This is the first study detailing the microhabitat specificity of the monogenean parasite, Paradiplozoon ichthyoxanthon Avenant-Oldewage in Avenant-Oldewage et al., 2014. Samples of the monogenean were collected from the gills of the smallmouth yellowfish Labeobarbus aeneus (Burchell) from the Vaal Dam, South Africa, over four seasons with the use of gill nets. Host condition factor fluctuated ...

Two new species of Gyrodactylus (Gyrodactylidae) are described from Corydoras paleatus (Jenyns) and Corydoras ehrhardti Steindachner (Callichthyidae) of Rio Piraquara, Municipality of Piraquara, near Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil: Gyrodactylus anisopharynx sp. n. and Gyrodactylus samirae sp. n. These species are unique among the known Neotropical species of Gyrodactylus by the combination of several...
